Unpopular opinion: I am glad Project Sekai doesn't put new bands into the game.

Whenever people say "If a new band is announced, what do you want them to be?" , I always think of Bandori : the game with 50+ characters (including the new band they plan on releasing). I could NEVER play that game , not because it's bad but because it's over-whelming , like too many characters with individual arcs I have to follow to understand what's going on (though MYGO!! and the new band have a pretty good anime). Same goes with D4DJ , the lesbian game with too many bands as well (though they're in members of 4). I do think that D4DJ is much more versatile since it not only has an instrumental band , but the aesthetics for alot of the characters are pretty unique (Church girl band , Beach-style band , futuristic , etc).

I do think Project Sekai took a pretty good approach in only having 20 characters , which have their own story arcs , and doesn't over-whelm me like the other games (though I admit , D4DJ is much more merciful IMO when it comes to recieving 4 stars , at some point , I didn't get a single 4 star for a month in project sekai). Also , the characters themselves are really like-able (mafuyu my beloved ...).
