Does anyone else not care about not driving?
To be honest, I've never really wanted to drive. It's not like it wouldn't help or be useful, but I just can't stand cars. I understand why people feel differently, but to me cars are always in the way.
I started riding my bicycle to high school to avoid the bus, and have always gotten around on my bike. Now, I've lived for so many years with cars and roads being only obstacles and threats to my life that I don't really see them as a convenience at all. People don't realize how intensely unpleasant they are to be around and all the problems they cause. I wish communities were still built around people. I value being able to ride my bike, and the health benefits. I even like walking. I find the bit with Toad in "The Wind in the Willows" absolutely hilarious, but I'm not sure many people appreciate it today.
FWIW: I've lived in a lot of different kinds of communites, and not being able to drive has had a major impact on mylife - so it's not like I don't understand. I just feel the way I do.
(I'm not encouraging anyone to ride a bike if it's not safe for them.)
